Hello friends!

It turns out that the name TalkingPad actually can't be used as an app name. Apps have to avoid using the word "pad" in their title. So, the new name is:

nonlinear

and the new website is…

http://www.keetsy.com/nonlinear

The logo is…

Hope for it to be out very soon! (it's going through the approval process again… tick tock…)

My small iPhone development company is interested in tackling the project, but I'm concerned that we'll be one of 10 such apps that appear in response to Seth's posting. Even if we produce a killer app, it might not be Seth's favorite, and if not then it will be hard to rise above the competitive noise.

I know there's no easy answer, but does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I like the idea. I see it.

I question the "pad" as a delivery tool.

How do you picture yourself using this?
Are you sitting or standing?

Sitting…hmm probably not, but still, just for the hell of it, sitting…
is it on a flat surface or not… well.. the reflection of the light above your head means that it needs to be inclined, with one hand behind to hold, one hand to operate. Without trying to be comical, if we are sitting, we end up with a laptop with a modification (pie of books ?) to stop the screen from moving.

Standing…
Ok, how long is this presentation ? 30 mins ? It is going to get heavy.
Ok, so you will put it down somewhere when you are not using it. Good plan, but somehow this is going to break the fluidity of the presentation. Anyhow, let's assume you do that and you eliminate the weight aspect or holding a 1.5 lb item between your thumb and fingers, horizontally so it does not slip from your sweaty palm.

How are you going to hold this ? By the top, the bottom? where is your thumb going to be, on the multi touch screen ?

It really does sound as if you need a stand for this device. One that will hold the screen at around 15 degrees off the vertical. A laptop on a stool will do that.

I like the idea though. I also think that Prezi is pretty much there with the software concept.

Crowdsource, or get funding from sponsors?

The TalkingPad app can be used by anyone that interacts with other people in presenting ideas, proposals, etc. It can also teach our kids (and us!) to think non-linearly when we prepare ourselves in communicating our ideas to others. So, the appeal is universal.

So, we could develop this as a crowdsourcing project, but I think there are other options. For example, what about seeking sponsors for the project? We could crowdsource the funding for a small team that can develop and ship. We could also seek corporate sponsors, if for example, instead of making the app free, there is a charge for it and the proceeds go to a noble cause.
